COVID-19 attributed to the reduction of Shaela’s parents’ work hours. Her family needed income and, since many of the places that usually hire youth (food and non-essential retail) were closed, Shaela visited ESWC for assistance.
Using Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding, ESWC created Weld CARES 4 Youth, a program to assist young adults impacted (or whose families were impacted) by COVID-19. The goal of Weld CARES was to provide a paid work experience to enrollees.
Shaela’s case manager learned that her career goal is to become a veterinarian. Weld CARES launched Shaela on her career path by placing her at the Milliken Animal Clinic. Shaela really enjoyed the experience and learned so much throughout her work experience. Upon completing her hours, the Animal Clinic hired Shaela as a permanent employee.
