Thompson School District Innovative Technology Services continues to feed their IT technician talent pipeline with youth apprentices. 2 more students were hired this summer from their apprenticeships into full-time Technician II positions. TSD ITS has hired a total of 6 TSD students from their apprenticeships into permanent positions. They frequently utilize the school-based student internship program to feed their apprenticeship candidate pool and are even exploring a middle school level internship program! Rebekah Beckett, TSD ITS Client Services Coordinator and manager of the intern and apprentice programs, has partnered with a technology provider to custom-build training programs for the interns and apprentices. Rebekah says of their program: “For the school district, the benefits include increased efficiency in IT operations, reduced workload for full-time staff, and the cultivation of a future-ready workforce.” This program has just been approved as a Registered Apprenticeship Program with the Department of Labor.
