From Stephanie Aldrich, Manager of Volunteer Services:

Platte Valley Hospital launched its High School Student Internship and Observation Program in 2021, inspired by a student from Riverdale High School who expressed interest in observing the NICU unit. This student, aspiring to become a NICU nurse, sought hands-on experience before beginning her college studies.

After spending time observing our NICU, Postpartum, and Labor and Delivery units, she discovered that NICU nursing wasn’t the right fit for her. However, she found a passion for Postpartum care and decided to pursue it as her career focus. Today, she is finishing her nursing degree at the University of Northern Colorado, specializing in Postpartum care. She completed her clinicals at Platte Valley Hospital and is deeply grateful for the opportunity that helped shape her career path.

Platte Valley Hospital is proud to have offered valuable observation experiences to hundreds of students from over 10 local schools. Many of these former interns have returned to join our team, now serving as compassionate caregivers and continuing their medical education while providing exceptional patient care to our community.
